Deri Fawr (Big Oak) nestles in a valley created by The Afon Coch (Red River) which enters the sea at Dulas one mile to the east. All the land and gardens (3 acres) are available for your enjoyment. There are extensive hedgerows, many trees, birds and animals. Two ponds are home to ducks, moorhens, kingfisher, fish, eels and frogs. Rabbits and hedgehogs come and go. Bats are to be seen regularly.

Your hosts Mavis and Paul who are responsible for the conversion and conservation. Both are keen on encouraging wildlife and keeping the planet sustainable. We recycle as much as possible, use stream and rain water for many purposes and have won an award in the Green Dragon conservation project. We are now burning wood which we planted from seed twenty years ago.We live in the house nearby and are always available to give advice, help or just to talk. For the comfort of all our guests we do not accept pets and are a non smoking establishment.

Deri Fawr Anglesey
Deri Fawr means Big Oak and there was a mediaeval village here called Deri from which the house takes its name.

The Annexe, Dari FawrWe took an 18th Century stone barn and sympathetically converted it into three cottages. Wales Tourist Board has awarded them four stars in recognition of the high standard achieved. All are centrally heated throughout. Parking is right outside your door. There are two acres of land for you to enjoy. The garden has flower beds, fruit trees and a vegetable plot. The paddock is surrounded by a big old hedgerow and is planted with native trees. At the bottom of the paddock, a stream runs through two ponds. Birds and wildlife abound as we try to manage the land to encourage a balanced ecology. It is very quiet here and many guests comment on this. There is a gas barbecue and sun chairs available for your use.

Deri Fawr is an ideal centre from which to walk and Anglesey has 650 miles of footpaths. We can provide maps and suggest routes, and we can also arrange transport for linear routes. There are ten walks leaflets available guiding you on 150 miles of way marked footpath in some of the most beautiful coast and countryside in the world. Much of the coast is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or owned by the National Trust. 25% of the award winning beaches in Wales are on Anglesey. The island has a wealth of historic sites, many from most ages since the prehistoric times.

Anglesey is a mecca for birds and we have numerous bird and nature reserves. The island is well known for the profusion of wild flowers which grow all over it.
